How to cool a gaming laptop
Many people use laptop for gaming because of their portability. But the portability comes with a price which is bad thermals as compared to desktop computers. And to chill down a laptop is also a little bit trickier as compared to the desktop. But, don’t worry I got you covered. Try the subsequent methods to cool down and you will obviously see results. Let start :
1. Using laptop cooler:
A laptop cooler has a structure-like fan(s) attached to the tray or stand of the laptop. All you have to do is invest a little bit in it. Though it’s not expensive and in long run it will pay for itself. Place the laptop thereon will using it. The cooler increases the airflow of the laptop which helps to cool down the components of the laptop and thus lowering the temperatures. Usually, one fan cooler is enough for normal use like browsing, or youtube kind of stuff. But to cool a gaming laptop you will need a cooler with more than a single fan since a gaming laptop have a GPU in it which produces plenty of heat.
2. Placement and Environment:
The placing of a laptop is incredibly important. It’s recommended to put the laptop on a flat and hard surface while use. This improves the airflow. Once you place the laptop on a flat and hard surface the rubber feet elevates the laptop enough so fans can pull the air in it to cool down the components for proper functioning. On the opposite hand, if you place the laptop on a soft surface like a bed or lap then you’re highly going to block the air vents. But if you’ve to use a laptop in bed or something then ensure you are not blocking the air vents.
The environment within which you’re using a laptop also matters. If you’re gaming in a hot environment then the laptop is highly going to catch up to the heat faster and plenty of it. So try to be in a cool environment especially when doing some GPU & CPU-intensive tasks.
3. Keep laptop clean
Although you use your laptop in proper placement but eventually your laptop will get some dust. For this, I like to recommend you clean your laptop every 3 to 6 months. To do it all you need is a can of compressed air. Turn off your laptop and give it some time to cool down. Then turn over the laptop and spray a little bit of air into the air vent till there’s not dust anymore. Do this for all the vents.
However, you’ve clean the laptop externally but do it internally. By which I mean is delete the unnecessary files that make extra load on your CPU.
4. Lowering the load:
Lowering the load also helps to stay the laptop cool.
1. Close the background apps that are running for some unknown reason. Open the task manager and check for those apps that are using a considerable amount of processing power. Close these apps
2. Delete the unnecessary files.
3. Reduce the screen brightness.
4. try avoiding downloading things from unknown resources
5. Lowering the game graphics settings:
If you’re playing high graphics-intensive games and your laptop is heating. Then you must consider lowering the graphics settings. Here are some recommendations where you should start:
1. Lowering the resolution
2. Decreasing the shadows
3. Twitching the anti-aliasing settings
4. lower the texture quality a bit.
6.External GPU:
If your laptop supports the external GPU then you should consider getting one.
It will boost your performance and also lower the temperatures.
7. Undervolting CPU:
Undervolting means lowering the power consumption of the CPU without compromising the performance. By this, your CPU produces less heat. It depends on the CPU that at what proportion we should undervolt, so do a bit of research if you are going to do it.
Try these methods and you may see results needless to say. But even if you don’t see any results then consider checking up your laptop by a professional or maybe your laptop is too old and it’s time for an upgrade.
